The 2017 Scapin Kalibra builds on last season's Etika aero race bike through a collaboration with sister-company Olympia Cicli. Olympia was, in fact, the first manufacturer to design a road bike specifically FOR road disc brakes and not just adapted for them.
This last Olympia aero race disc bike won the Innovation Design Award at EXPOBICI Padua 2013 for the massive leap forward it represented for road disc brakes. That design was based on three prerequisites: optimal design, braking, and aerodynamics.
For 2017, the Kalibra has been completely redesigned from the ground up to be lighter, faster, smoother, and more versatile in every way, utilizing Scapin's knowledge of road cycling demands, with Olympia's research and manufacturing capabilities, while building on the success of their previous models.
We at Scapin USA were able to test both the previous generation models - the Etika from Scapin and the Leader Disc from Olympia - and with feedback from Scapin USA in late 2015 and 2016, we are proud to say the 2017 Kalibra Disc features a thorough rethinking of the road race disc platform: new flat-mount disc compatibility, 12-mm thru-axles in the front and rear, internal cable-routing for mechanical and electric drivetrains, a highly asymmetric design building on the previous generation model, and a more versatile race platform than ever before.
The 2017 Kalibra now comfortably fits 28mm tires, while retaining the fast, agile and capable geometry that our classic Italian engineers and craftsmen pride themselves on. The Kalibra is definitely race or fondo ready, and yet also capable of chewing up lonely dirt roads and country expanses.
Tech highlights include the use of Torray T-1000 carbon in specific areas for weight savings, a revolutionary "REVERSE" carbon fork, lending improvements to both steering stiffness and tire clearance, plus the new "Flow-Thru" integrated seat-clamp, providing easy adjustment and a lower seat-post junction for maximum vertical compliance. The Kalibra is Scapin's stiffest and most aerodynamic model ever, and yet retains the classic characteristics of fantastic handling and legendary ride quality, which Scapin are known for, plus the vital addition of disc brakes for stopping power, modulation and bigger tire clearances.
